While media outlets, world leaders, and the general public projected Biden as the winner last Saturday, Trump and some in his administration still refuse to accept their loss and concede. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to us, considering how many times Trump outright refused to accept a peaceful transition of power. Now, the time for that transition has come, and just like he said Trump is refusing, but he isn’t doing it without help.
The Trump-appointed leader of the General Services Administration—a small agency whose job it is to draft and sign paperwork to start the presidential transition of power, is refusing to do so. Not only that but other leaders of agencies in the federal government have apparently been instructed not to cooperate with the Biden transition team until President Donald Trump himself finally accepts his loss.
“We have been told: Ignore the media, wait for it to be official from the government,” said a senior administration official according to The Washington Post. This inaction on the current White House’s part has forced the Joe Biden transition team to look toward legal actions as a solution.
If you are wondering why the Biden campaign can’t just be patient and let Trump slowly accept that he is a loser well, there is a good reason for it. The General Services Administration that starts the transition of power grants something called ascertainment, which greenlights the old administration to work with the new one. This gives President-Elect Biden and Madam Vice President-Elect Harris access to more federal resources as they move towards taking over in January. Something like this would be a godsend if say, there was a deadly pandemic that had been ignored for months with a vaccine looking promising, and the new administration was in charge of distributing said vaccine in the future.
Even now Trump and those who are working with them don’t care about Americans, they don’t care about your health, they don’t care about your future. All they care about is desperately clawing onto a failed presidential campaign.
