Republican Official Claims He Won’t Wear A Mask Because God Doesn’t Wear One

This pandemic is really bringing out the crazies within the Republican Party.

In a brazenly ignorant call for defying social distancing and stay-at-home measures, a Republican official has declared that he refuses to wear a mask in public because God supposedly doesn’t wear one.

Wearing a mask not only protects you from contracting the deadly coronavirus, but it protects others from getting it from you as well. That’s why wearing one is vital, and even Vice President Mike Pence admitted on Fox News that he should wear a mask when he appears at public events.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R) has been praised for his response to the pandemic, which has resulted in under 20,000 being infected in the state with just over 1,000 deaths. Health officials in the state are warning against re-opening the state too early because it risks triggering a second wave of the virus that could end up being deadlier than the current round.

But Ohio State GOP Rep. Nino Vitale openly called for defying Ohio Health Director Amy Acton and the policies that have worked so well to flatten the curve, even going so far as to refuse to wear a mask while citing God as his reason why.

“This is the greatest nation on earth founded on Judeo-Christian Principles,” Vitale wrote in a post flagged by reporter Tyler Buchanan. “One of those principles is that we are all created in the image and likeness of God. That image is seen the most by our face. I will not wear a mask.”

It should be pointed out that this country was, in fact, NOT founded on Judeo-Christian principles. Nowhere is our Constitution does it mention God, nor does it say we are all created in God’s image. The Declaration of Independence does not say that either.

“It is time to do what Preble County did, ignore the unelected Dr. Acton’s orders, open your counties now, before it’s too late,” Vitale continued. “This is not based on logic, this is based on fear and propaganda and every statistical, data-driven study done in the last 2 weeks says death counts are low, the models were wrong, and this is more like the flu.”

Actually, the coronavirus is much deadlier than the flu, and the statistics prove it. In just two months, the virus killed nearly 70,000 Americans. The seasonal flu has killed an estimated 29,000 to 61,000 Americans over the course of six or seven months. The infection and mortality rate of coronavirus is also much higher than the flu.

The models are also constantly changing and take social distancing and lockdowns into account. Once those policies are dropped or outright ignored as Vitale is demanding, the next predictive models will likely show a spike in infections and deaths.

So, these policies are absolutely based on logic. What’s not based on logic is refusing to wear a mask because God supposedly doesn’t. If God exists, we have no idea if he or she even has a face. God could even be wearing some kind of religious mask for all we know. Also, if God did not want us to wear masks to protect ourselves, they would not exist. If God is the creator of everything, then God created science, and science is warning us to wear masks to protect ourselves.

Vitale is willfully putting his constituents and colleagues in grave danger by refusing to wear a mask and he should be held accountable when people who listen to him start to die.
