Texas’ Republican lieutenant governor Dan Patrick is doubling down on his previous rhetoric to get the economy reopened in his state. Patrick’s logic basically is this: Seniors should die for Wall Street, and just take one for the team. Late last month, Patrick talked to Fox News’ Tucker Carlson and suggested that grandparents — including himself — would be willing to risk their health and lives for the United States to “get back to work” amid the massive COVID-19 pandemic that has brought the world to a standstill.

“Those of us who are 70 plus, we’ll take care of ourselves. But don’t sacrifice the country,” Patrick said at the time.

Well, he’s doing it again, returning to Carlson’s show even though Patrick faced backlash after he first voiced his pro-death rhetoric.

“What I said when I was with you that night is there are more important things than living,” Patrick told Carlson, referring to when he first made the suggestion last month, according to Talking Points Memo. “And that’s saving this country for my children and my grandchildren and saving this country for all of us.”

“And I don’t want to die, nobody wants to die,” he continued. “But man we’ve got to take some risks and get back in the game and get this country back up and running.”

“There are more important things than living, and that’s saving this country for my children and my grandchildren and saving this country for all of us,” Patrick added.

Watch a Republican say the quiet part out loud:

Health officials have warned that states should not reopen businesses too quickly for fear of a spike in COVID-19 cases, but some governors — like Florida GOP Gov Ron DeSantis — across the country are starting to announce their timelines to ease restrictions.

We found the death panels. Republicans are willing to throw your MawMaw and Gramps in the mortuary to boost Wall Street gains. We’re facing a health crisis, and it should be treated as such. Mr. Patrick, the economy will bounce back, but dead people can’t work, you absolute ghoul.
