Republican Senator Suggests Her Supporters “Fast A Meal” And Give Her Campaign The Money They Would Save By Doing So

A new low and a new level of tone-deafness.

At a time when tens of millions of Americans are out of work and struggling to get by, Senator Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) is begging people to skip meals and donate the money saved to her campaign instead.

Retired astronaut Mark Kelly is currently trouncing McSally in the polls despite her absolute support for Donald Trump. Her seat is among the many across the country that Democrats are poised to flip on November 3rd. McSally previously lost a Senate race just two years ago when Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) handily defeated her. Now Arizona voters have another chance to reject her.

In fact, McSally is now resorting to desperately begging for campaign cash. At a recent event, as reported by AZ Family, McSally told supporters to “fast a meal” so they can donate more money so her campaign can beef up their advertising.

“There’s an air war going on on television right now, right, you see it. And look, we’re being outgunned in the air, okay,” McSally said. “We’re doing our part to catch up, you know, to get our message out. But it takes resources. So, anybody can give, I’m not ashamed to ask, to invest. If you can give a dollar, five dollars, if you can fast a meal and give what that would be.”

Here’s the video:

Seriously, McSally actually asked Americans to go hungry or not feed their own kids so they can give her money. That’s the lowest of the low things that Republicans have asked of voters on the campaign trail. Not even Trump has sunk that low. She SHOULD be ashamed.

McSally’s campaign, of course, is whining about the report.

“This is a dumb non-story about a candidate making a joke on the stump,” the campaign said.

If it’s truly a “joke,” it’s a bad one. You really have to be tone-deaf to the crises Americans are dealing with to make such a “joke” right now. Millions are facing eviction. Many are facing ridiculous medical bills. Many don’t have jobs. Many are actually struggling to put food on the table. But McSally wants people to skip meals and give whatever money they have to her campaign.

Arizona and the nation deserve better in the Senate.
