Republicans Often Compare Trump To Churchill, So “Morning Joe” Played Clips Of Their Speeches Back To Back To Show How Stupid The Comparison Is

Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for daring to compare Trump to Churchill.

Supporters of President Donald Trump frequently compare him to legendary former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who guided his nation and much of the free world through World War II, so MSNBC’s Morning Joe put their comparisons to the test by playing their speeches back to back and the results were devastating to Trump.

Churchill inspired his nation to take a stand for democracy and freedom in the face of Nazi tyranny, withstanding the Blitz in 1940-41 and going on to fight with the Allies to beat Hitler and change the world in the process.

His speeches are burned into human memory and stand as a testament to his tenacity, eloquence, strength, and courage. He inspired a generation and has continued to inspire to this day even though he has long since passed away.

For some reason, conservatives think Trump is somehow the new Churchill and have often compared Trump to him. Never mind the fact that Trump dodged the draft five times while Churchill enlisted to serve during World War I. And never mind the fact that Churchill ran an effective government that saw the United Kingdom through one of the direst times in all of history while Trump has fumbled his response to the current crisis.

No, Morning Joe chose to focus on the speeches, and when we hear both men speak, there’s a clear difference that is decidedly not in Trump’s favor at all.

“We cannot tell what the course of this fell war will be,” Churchill began in a speech in 1941. “It spreads remorse to ever-wider regions. We know it will be hard, we expect it will be long, we cannot predict or measure its episodes or its tribulation. But one thing is certain, one thing is sure, one thing stands out, stark and undeniable, massive and unassailable for all the world to see: It will not be by German hands that the structure of Europe will be rebuilt or the union of the European family achieved!”

It’s safe to say that Trump doesn’t even know what most of those words mean and most likely can’t spell them either.

Morning Joe then played a Trump speech from last month when he downplayed the threat of coronavirus and insisted everything is fine.

“We’re prepared and we’re doing a great job with it,” Trump said. “It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away. Everybody has to be vigilant and has to be careful. Be calm. It’s really working out. A lot of good things are going to happen.”

Watch:

Had Churchill said that about the Nazis in 1941 democracy would be dead and we’d all be speaking German.

Trump himself has praised Nazis as “very fine people.”

Not even Churchill would have done that.
