Republicans Tried To Cheat By Forcing WI Voters To Show Up In Person To Vote For State Supreme Court And They Still Lost

The people of Wisconsin were rightfully pissed off, and they used their votes to tell Republicans to go to hell.

President Donald Trump’s preferred choice in the Wisconsin state Supreme Court race has been ousted from office as Republicans learn that their scheme to suppress the vote in the state spectacularly backfired.

Last Tuesday, Republicans went to the United States Supreme Court to challenge Governor Tony Evers’ decision to postpone the election to June due to the coronavirus pandemic. Of course, the high court sided with the GOP and forced the people of Wisconsin to choose between voting or potentially contracting a deadly virus that has killed over 23,000 Americans across the country.

Republicans were hoping that fear of the pandemic would stymie the vote and give their party an easy win.

But an overwhelming number of Wisconsin voters flocked to polls, standing in lines that stretched for miles and gave new meaning to how determined people are to punish Republicans at the polls.

Trump himself repeatedly promoted incumbent state Supreme Court judge Daniel Kelly, but in the end, Democratic challenger Dane County Circuit Judge Jill Karofsky secured a major victory that wasn’t even close. As of this writing, she led Kelly by over 70,000 votes with over 70 percent reporting. The race was easy to call.

“Look, we shouldn’t have had the election on Tuesday,” Karofsky said in a statement. “It was an untenable decision (on whether to vote), but the people of the state of Wisconsin rose up. Anyone who wasn’t brought to tears when they were looking at those people in Milwaukee voting on Tuesday, and voting in Green Bay on Tuesday, just doesn’t have a heart.”

Let this be a lesson to Republicans that when you try to suppress the vote, people are going to fight back to make sure it blows up in your face. If Trump and the GOP weren’t scared about the election in November, they certainly should be now.
