Trump associate Roger Stone now wants everyone to believe that he’s found God and insists that he and the president have been forgiven for everything they’ve ever done wrong.
Christianity has long been used as a convenient way for charlatans and criminals to make it seem like they’ve changed their ways. Unless you’re a Democrat, of course. Just ask former President Bill Clinton, whom conservative evangelicals damned to hell just for having an affair and lying about it back in 1998.
But despite the fact that Trump has engaged in several extramarital escapades over the years, including one with adult film star Stormy Daniels after the birth of his son Barron, evangelicals refuse to condemn him. And they won’t condemn him even for his other crimes, lies, and hateful behavior.
That’s because Trump pandered to them by claiming to have found God, which somehow automatically means that he’s absolved of all his sins.

And now that Stone has been convicted on seven counts of obstruction, lying and witness tampering, he is also claiming to have found Christianity in a new interview with Axios on HBO.
“I feel pretty good because I’ve taken Jesus Christ as my personal savior,” Stone said. “And it’s given me enormous strength and solace, because he knows what’s in my heart. Christians believe deeply in redemption. So it’s not whether you’ve sinned. It’s what’s in your heart today — where you stand with God today.”
Well, that’s nice to know. Now any terrible person can just claim to be born again and it makes every horrible thing they’ve ever done irrelevant. Evil dictators and ruthless killers must be kicking themselves in Hell right now because apparently all they had to do while alive is just claim to have found Jesus and they would have been forgiven—at least by conservative evangelicals.
Stone went on to admit that Trump has done wrongs, but insisted that he’s been forgiven, too.
“I think Trump has been forgiven for anything he did wrong. I think we all have,” he said. “And I think he’s a different person. I think he is steadfast in his faith. I don’t think he could do this job if he was not.”

All their lives, Trump and Stone have conned people, and that’s no different today. Neither man could cite a passage from the Bible if you asked them to do so. That’s because they’ve never read it. Trump pays lip service to evangelicals because he needs them in November. Stone is doing it because he wants those same evangelicals to pressure Trump to pardon him.
Just like Trump, Stone is playing the God card to gain sympathy from gullible evangelicals. Neither of them has really changed. They just want “Get Out of Jail Free” cards, which—sadly—evangelicals are all too willing to hand out to anyone these days.
