Is anyone surprised?

Florida is suffering from a recent COVID-19 outbreak, driven by the rapid spread of the omicron variant, so Gov. Ron DeSantis sprang into action by taking a vacation. It’s not too surprising since DeSantis has done nothing to fight the coronavirus. Instead, the Florida Republican seems to be on COVID’s side of the pandemic battle. That seems to be a constant theme with Republicans.

During a press conference, Orange County Democratic Mayor Jerry Demings said counties have not received funding from the state for COVID-19 testing and questioned why DeSantis has been largely absent as the new omicron variant has quickly become the one dominant strain in the Sunshine State, The Hill reports.

“We have not received any assistance from the state of Florida at our testing sites,” he said. “Our residents, all Florida residents, should be outraged, and they should ask the question, ‘Where is our state? Where is our governor? Where is Ron DeSantis now?'”

Well, he took a vacay, according to Christina Pushaw, DeSantis’ press secretary.

Imagine that:

Some Twitter users suggested that Gov. DeSantis may have contracted COVID.

DeSantis has not held a COVID-19 briefing since Dec. 17. In November, DeSantis signed four bills curtailing both mask and vaccine mandates. And now he’s on vacation.
