Ron DeSantis Reportedly Left The Scene Of Tragic Florida Building Collapse To Announce Deployments Over Border “Crisis”

Of course he did.

There was a partial collapse of a 12-story condominium in Surfside, Fla., early Thursday morning, leaving four people dead and 159 others are missing. Rescue crews are continuing to comb through the rubble to look for survivors. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla) addressed the incident, saying that he wanted to find out why it happened, adding that he needs an “accurate” report. No shit, DeSantis. Like, who wants an inaccurate report? The tragic incident garnered worldwide attention, but the Florida Republican left quickly to head to Pensacola to announce that he’s deploying law enforcement officers to Texas and Arizona, according to Salon.

DeSantis, who is getting a lot of attention lately after a straw poll showed him edging out former President Donald Trump for the 2024 GOP nomination, called the situation at the border a “crisis” while rescue teams are out in Surfside digging through the rubble in the hopes of finding signs of life.

“Representatives for sheriffs’ departments across Florida told the Pensacola News Journal on Friday that they weren’t quite sure what resources were being allocated to which jurisdictions, what personnel they should ready, and who exactly was footing the bill,” Salon reports. “The question of funding for the venture failed to gain much clarity during DeSantis’ Friday press conference, with the governor punting the inquiry as something to be hashed out in the future.”

“That’s still a point of discussion,” DeSantis said after a reporter asked about who was paying for the deployment. “Typically, if someone would help us, we would pick up some of their funding, so that’s how we would hope that it goes.”

“DeSantis was one of three Republican governors to commit state officers to border duty after a letter from Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, and Gov. Doug Ducey, R-Ariz., called for help from their counterparts in the remaining 48 states,” the report adds. “In particular, DeSantis used a rising number of methamphetamine arrests to justify the deployment, saying the influx of drugs coming from Mexico is an existential threat to the safety of everyday Floridians.”

The border is a rallying cry for Republicans, and sure, it does need to be addressed, but every few years, there is a “crisis,” and it’s dealt with. DeSantis probably thinks if he says ‘border crisis’ three times really fast, he’ll get the GOP nomination — and he’s probably right.
