Reports broke this morning on Buckingham Palace’s revelation that Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II was under close medical supervision by her doctors, as they had grown “concerned” for the 96-year-old monarch’s health.

“Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision,” read a statement released by Buckingham Palace regarding Queen Elizabeth’s, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, health earlier today. “After a full day yesterday, Her Majesty has this afternoon accepted doctors’ advice to rest.”

It was reported that the family was notified of the Queen’s down turning health and many of her closest relatives were traveling to Balmoral Castle, her royal residence in Scotland where she spends her traditional summer retreat in the Scottish Highlands.

Following this morning’s revelations regarding Queen Elizabeth II’s health, Buckingham Palace has sadly announced that Her Majesty’s long-standing reign has come to an end, as the Queen passed peacefully this afternoon.

In a statement released by the royal family, it was confirmed, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

BBC News reports:

With her death, her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.

At Buckingham Palace in London, crowds awaiting updates on the Queen’s condition began crying as they heard of her death. The Union flag on top of the palace was lowered to half-mast at 18:30 BST.”
