Senate Republican Warns Trump To Keep Jim Jordan Out Of Impeachment Trial

He actually should probably listen.

It seems there may be a politically astute — not highly intelligent, mind you, but good at politics — Republican left in Texas. Senior Senator John Cornyn on Monday warned his ringleader Donald Trump against bringing in Jim Jordan, Devin Nunes, Matt Gaetz, Mark Meadows, Doug Collins, or any of the other GOP hacks from the House impeachment inquiry to serve on his legal team.

Sure, Cornyn says it’s to avoid the “circus-like atmosphere” from those hearings, but it seems like an awfully strange thing to admit — number one, that the inquiry was a circus, and number two, that it apparently was one because of House Republicans like the above.

We’re not disagreeing, of course; the shouting, bluster, unserious questioning, and open strategy of simply trying to derail the entire proceedings with endless and meaningless interruptions and procedural maneuvers truly did make a mockery of something that should have been a solemn affair.

Now that Trump is impeached, however, Cornyn knows that a similar strategy would simply make Republicans look like even bigger fools and that the House members who carried out that idiotic plan would be just the perfect people to do it. Bringing on Nunes or Jordan to paint metaphors or shout down witnesses would make it obvious that the GOP just doesn’t want the trial to happen in the first place and will do anything to make this all go away.

We can’t help but wonder if Cornyn has shared his feelings with the folks he seems to be calling circus clowns.

In the end, of course, it will be up to Trump — and he makes worse decisions than every Republican member of Congress in either chamber does, combined. We’re crossing our fingers that the President picks Rudy Giuliani.

Was the crisis in Afghanistan surrounding the pull out of American Troops Biden's fault or Trump's fault?
