Attorney General William Barr’s clumsy firing last weekend of Geoffrey Berman, the U.S. Attorney for the powerful Southern District of New York, shined a light on the corruption surrounding the swampy Trump administration. First, Barr said Berman was resigning, then Berman said he wasn’t stepping down. Then Barr said President Donald Trump ordered the firing of Berman. Trump said he didn’t.

Berman’s ouster is just the latest in a series of firings, interventions, and maneuvers by Barr to benefit Trump and the president’s allies. Covering for Trump isn’t in the Attorney General’s job description, though. And now, even Barr’s alma mater is calling him out.

Law professors and faculty from George Washington University Law School said in a letter Tuesday that Barr has “failed to fulfill his oath of office to ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States,” according to CNN. The statement isn’t a partisan attack — it has bipartisan support by 65 faculty members and professors from the law school.

The group issued a statement saying that Barr’s actions as attorney general “have undermined the rule of law, breached constitutional norms, and damaged the integrity and traditional independence of his office and of the Department of Justice.”

The letter is signed by the president and CEO of the National Bar Association Alfreda Robinson and interim dean of the school Christopher Alan Bracey, according to the news outlet.

“[Barr] obfuscated and misled the American public about the results of the Mueller investigation,” the letter reads. “He wrongfully interfered in the day-to-day activities of career prosecutors, and continues to do so, bending the criminal justice system to benefit the President’s friends and target those perceived to be his enemies.”

Barr was also called out by the group for reportedly ordering the clearing out of protesters from Lafayette Park, in which American citizens were tear-gassed and flash-banged so Trump could do a photo-op with a Bible in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church earlier this month.

“At a critical moment in American history, Attorney General Barr could have been a leader in protecting Americans’ First Amendment right to express their outrage at our nation’s long history of institutional racism, and police brutality against people of color,” the group said. “Instead, Attorney General Barr stands on the wrong side of history.”

Barr’s actions “have posed, and continue to create, a clear and present danger to the evenhanded administration of justice, to civil liberties, and to the constitutional order.”

Barr was just brutally called out from his alma mater to say he’s “damaged the integrity” of his position. That speaks volumes of this administration. Barr has damaged his reputation for a former reality TV show star.
