According to a new report from POLITICO, after speaking with two different sources who have knowledge on the matter, ex-President Donald Trump’s plane was forced to make an emergency landing Saturday night following the former guy’s speech at a Republican National Committee-hosted donor retreat in New Orleans.
“The plane was in the air for between 20 and 30 minutes before one of the engines failed and the pilot of the private plane decided to turn around and return to the New Orleans airport,” POLITICO reported one of the sources claiming. “The plane was en route to Palm Beach, Fla., where Trump resides at his Mar-a-Lago estate.”
The source went on to explain that audio recordings of the communications between the pilot and the air traffic control tower ultimately revealed that the unexpected landing was “emergency in nature.” However, POLITICO notes that another source familiar with the matter and the recording has since disputed the use of the word “emergency” in the communications audio.
“Once the plane was on the ground, the RNC scrambled and reached out to a donor and found the former president another plane. Trump eventually landed in Palm Beach around 3 a.m. Sunday,” the publication reports.

The flight in question was transporting the one-term, twice-impeached president back to his Florida Mar-a-Lago report after he delivered a trademarked rambling, unhinged speech at the Four Seasons Hotel in New Orleans, where he attended and spoke at a recent RNC event. The same event where Mike Pence was slated to publicly lash out at Putin apologists and many assumed his remarks were a thinly-veiled dig at his former boss.
According to recordings of Trump’s speech, per POLITICO’s report, the ex-president covered a variety of topics in his remarks and even joked that the United States should “bomb the shit out of Russia” with aircraft featuring the Chinese flag. He also reportedly called Democratic House Rep. Adam Schiff a “watermelon head” and referred to George Conway as a “son of a bitch.”
Donald Trump also claimed that he is “looking … very, very strongly” at the possibility of a third run at the White House in 2024.
