Fox News host Shepard Smith was perhaps the only human being at what is pretty much now the state-run Fox News Network who had even a shred of common sense or basic human decency.
And he was certainly one of a very select few who was brave enough to speak out against Donald Trump’s cruelty despite the fact that he was employed by Donald’s beloved news outlet.
He truly was one of the only breaths of fresh air left in that clusterfuck of a circus they called a news network.
And now he’s suddenly leaving.
Erik Wemple, a media reporter for the Washington Post announced via Twitter today that Shepard Smith was stepping down from his position as the chief news anchor for the Fox Network — effective immediately.
Announcement from Fox News: Shepard Smith is stepping down from his role as chief news anchor. This afternoon’s show was his last. Fissures between news and opinion at Fox News are for real.

While it’s peculiar enough in and of itself for such a longstanding anchor to suddenly resign on a dime like this, the situation becomes even fishier when you take into account what Trump’s Attorney General Bill Barr has been up to lately.
Not two days before Smith suddenly announced his immediate resignation from the network, Barr inexplicably held a meeting (the context of which is still unknown) with the CEO of Fox News, Rupert Murdoch.
There’s been no confirmation as to what the meeting between the two men was about nor any evidence yet to suggest that it was in regard to Shepard’s sudden departure. However, White House detractors have been quick to suspect that something shady is going on here — as it simply makes no sense for the country’s attorney general to be conducting strange meetings with a media mogul, especially during a time when Trump himself has been less than pleased with the conservative network.
While Shep seemed in good spirits during his departure announcement on the air today, Twitter users were unsurprisingly quick to share their theories:
Well, we finally know what Bill Barr has been up to this week. https://t.co/BHXdbhCPSD

He criticized trump, Barr made a house call and now Shepard Smith is out. This would only be normal if this was North Korea or Russia. If you think that fox isn’t state propaganda tv, think again

The fact that that’s possible is chilling, the fact that it’s likely, horrifying.

FOX State News doesn’t want the truth told to their viewers.

I bet the word came down from Murdoch himself that all Fox anchors need to fall in line to defend Trump against impeachment. Smith probably bucked.

While it’s certainly possible that this is an open and shut case of an individual that just wants to move on in life, there’s no doubt that Trump’s administration is always up to some funky shit.
Smith’s departure was almost just too odd to simply be a normal resignation.
Reports are now indicating that his fellow colleagues at the network were completely clueless about his resignation and it’s being said by sources familiar with the situation that the anchor was actually escorted out by security.
Sources directly familiar tell me many Fox News and Fox Business staffers were “shocked” when Shep Smith announced his departure on @foxnews, some were visibly upset. He was escorted out by security, per sources.
Fox plans to have a set of rotating anchors host his time slot. https://t.co/FfW2QUNaoD
