Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) wants everyone to know that he’s super patriotic, although maybe the Flag Day tweet he unleashed is just meant as a distraction from his scandals. And there are things Cruz should be doing right now, like, his job, for example. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas said on Monday that a large number of power plants are offline. So, Cruz sprang into action by videotaping himself reciting the Pledge of Allegiance while facing the American flag, and it appears that the Texas Republican is by himself, so it’s kind of weird.
Of course, saying the Pledge of Allegiance is meaningless for Cruz since he helped amplify former President Donald Trump’s big lie that led to the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at our Capitol. What we’re saying here is that you can’t be a patriot if you took part in trying to overturn the presidential election.

stop the performative grievance-baby nonsense, you grandstanding huckster, reciting the Pledge is not controversial. pledge to the flag all you want — the next time you’re in a Cancun airport while your constituents are freezing in the dark, for example

It isn’t the flag you are supposed to honor and fight for. It is what the flag stands for like democracy and justice. You aren’t a patriot. I can though think of many other p words you might consider describing yourself.

It truly is. He’s talking to a flag like it’s listening to him. At least I give him credit that he’s not humping one like Former Guy. pic.twitter.com/BgylcgA4vb

“Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies.”
Congratulations on perfecting that brand of politics, Rafael.

We’re not sure what Ted is trying to prove here. So maybe he should consider, and stay with me here, doing his job.
