The Republican Party Just Censored Liz Cheney And Adam Kinzinger For Working On The House Jan. 6th Panel And Daring To Publicly Criticize Trump

This is pathetic.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — the Republican party is no longer the party it once was. Now, I’m obviously not a Republican, never have been. But I’ve worked in politics for nearly a decade and I’m a born and raised American citizen living in the heart of the Red country Bible Belt. My point here is, even as a GOP “outside,” it’s just not hard to see that the Conservative party has made a massive shift in the last few years, and it ultimately comes down to one thing and one thing only — Donald Trump.

Even many Republicans these days are willing to admit that the Republican party is no longer the party of “Conservative values” like they used to be. They’re the party of Trumpism, plain and simple.

In his five short but tumultuous years on the political scene, this former real estate “mogul” and reality TV washup has taken an entire, centuries-established political party and turned it on its head. At this point in time, the reality of it is, if you want a place at the GOP table, it comes at the cost of blind loyalty and devotion to no one and nothing outside of Donald Trump. Should you deviate from this requirement in any way, they will send you to the gallows with a smile.

Ask Liz Cheney.

While the vast majority of Republicans have fallen down the Trumpism rabbit hole with no hope of returning, a small handful of prominent GOPers have been brave enough to stray from the flock and devote their professional and often personal lives to helping save this nation from the dark, destitute path that we’re on.

And they’re paying for it dearly.

According to a new report from CNN, members of the Republican National Committee officially voted today to formally censure GOP Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois for their involvement in the House Select Committee that is currently investigating the infamous January 6th Capitol riot, as well as their public condemnation of the GOP’s Dear Leader Donald Trump.

CNN reports:

The unprecedented move marks the first time the national party has rebuked an incumbent congressional Republican — much less two — with a formal censure backed by its members. Prior to its passage, RNC members pushed to have the resolution watered down to remove language calling for Cheney and Kinzinger’s expulsion from the House GOP Conference — a strictly symbolic measure given that the party does not have the authority to decide who does or does not serve in Congress.”

Both Cheney and Kinzinger have been ostracized by their fellow Republicans for their highly active roles in the panel and the overall investigation, which has ultimately drawn them scores of scorn from their fellow party members.

Trump ally and national committeeman from Maryland, David Bossie, who is responsible for the original resolution that sought to oust Cheney and Kinzinger from the GOP caucus said, “This is not about dissenting views. This is about them helping [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi.”

Speaking out in a statement ahead of the resolution’s passing, she noted that the measures on her fellow Republicans’ part mark “a sad day for the party of Lincoln.”

“If the price of being willing to tell the truth and get to the bottom of what happened on January 6 and make sure that those who are responsible are held accountable is a censure, then I am absolutely going to continue to stand up for what I knew was right.”

Some Republicans have had the gumption to speak out on the party’s motion to censure the two House Panel members with Utah Senator Mitt Romney stating, “Shame falls on a party that would censure persons of conscience, who seek truth in the face of vitriol. Honor attaches to Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for seeking truth even when doing so comes at great personal cost.”
