A North Carolina teacher has resigned from his position at Southwest High School in Jacksonville after video footage went viral on social media, showing the former educator going on a horrifying, profanity-filled temper tantrum while speaking to his student. School officials informed the Onslow County School District of the teacher’s disturbing rant that took place during first period on Wednesday, March 16th according to reporting from WCTI-TV.

Officials with Southwest High School informed the parents of the children in the affected classroom about the incident by day’s end and noted that action was promptly taken against the educator for his actions. According to the report, the unidentified teacher submitted their resignation to the school by the end of the day today.

Video footage of the teacher’s unhinged rant was recorded and shared by sophomore student Cimayiah Josey, and the unnamed teacher can be heard screaming, “Wanna try my authority? Because I am f**king done playing with you idiots.” Speaking with WCTI-TV, Josey explained that just prior to the teacher’s tantrum, he had asked students to put away their phones and computers. The eductor proceeded to fly off the handle after one student allegedly did not comply with his request.

“I’m here because I want to be here. I somewhat enjoy this job. You need something from me. I need nothing from you,” the teacher can be heard saying in the clip. “You can go through life and live on the f**king system, draw your paycheck on the 1st and 15th from my taxes and live an absolute horrible life. I don’t care. You can be another statistic. I don’t care. That’s on you and if you think it’s funny, I can take you down to the county office and we’ll pull the f**king numbers.”

Josey went on to tell the news outlet that she “felt like it was racially motivated. It was disrespectful.” The sophomore student went on to add, “Your job is to encourage me and to push me to be the best I can be, even though it wasn’t said directly to me, dang, that’s how you really think about us?”

Josey stated that upon realizing that she was recording the outburst, the teacher demanded that she leave the classroom. Her claim is supported by the video footage. “And if you don’t like my language, I don’t give a sh*t,” the teacher screamed.

The student told the outlet that she recorded the tirade because she was concerned that no one would believe her if she didn’t. “I was scared, I didn’t know what to do,” Josey said.

Several students, including Josey, said they were left feeling extremely traumatized after the incident, with many stating that they felt scared to return to school. It remains unclear as to whether the outburst truly was racially motivated. However, the verbiage used by the teacher did certainly indicate racial bias and stereotypes.

Josey also spoke with McClathy News and stated, “I just know that regardless of what he said to me, I know that I’m not a statistic. And I know that I’m not going to be a statistic because I have the support that I need and, regardless, I’m going to make it.”

The school district released a statement addressing the issue, writing, “In the Onslow County School system, we expect only the highest standards of behavior from our students and staff, and that we treat every member of our school family with dignity and respect.”

“The type of behavior exhibited in this situation will not be tolerated and is certainly not representative of the employees of Southwest High School, or any other employees who work in our district.”
