Amid Trump’s public impeachment inquiry hearings that have raged over the past few weeks and are set to continue before yet another committee on Wednesday, one of the key components of the original scandal with Ukraine has sat down for a rather damning interview with Time Magazine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sat down for what could be described as an explosive interview with the popular magazine in which he dished out some pretty heavy criticism of the United States president — sticking to his denial of a blatant quid pro quo but telling the publication that the issue surrounding military aid to his county was about “fairness.”

Since the interview went public, Trump was quick to jump on his Twitter account and declare that Zelensky once again completely exonerated him from any wrongdoing.

“Breaking News: The President of Ukraine has just again announced that President Trump has done nothing wrong with respect to Ukraine and our interactions or calls,” POTUS’ tweet read. “If the Radical Left Democrats were sane, which they are not, it would be case over!”

However, as pointed out by Politico’s Kyle Cheney, Zelensky didn’t “say anything like this” during his interview with the magazine. In fact, the Ukranian president chastised his American counterpart for attempting to withhold aid and funding from his country when they needed it most to fight back against Russian-backed forces.

“We’re at war,” Zelensky stated in the interview. “If you’re our strategic partner, then you can’t go blocking anything for us. I think that’s just about fairness. It’s not about a quid pro quo.”

The Ukranian president went on to heavily fault Donald for painting his country is such an unflattering light by using the excuse of “corruption” to legitimize his shady decision to put a hold on aid already owed to the country — resulting in investors, banks, stakeholders and companies feeling they should “be careful” or “get out” of Ukraine, as America serves as a “signal” to the rest of the world.

“During my meeting with him, I said that I don’t want our country to have this image,” the world leader explained. “For that, all he has to do is come and have a look at what’s happening, how we live, what kinds of people we are.”

It’s clear that Donald is treating this massive scandal just like his last — grasping at every straw and crumb as proof of his innocence and landing himself caught in a web of lies each and every time.

I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if he accidentally slipped up and declared “NO COLLUSION, NO OBSTRUCTION!” before long.
