In the United States of America, in just this year alone, there have been more mass shootings than there have been days in the year. Today marked yet another.

This morning, a gunman opened fire inside a classroom at the U.S. Naval Air Station Pensacola in Pensacola, Florida — killing three individuals and injuring an additional seven before being shot and killed by deputies on the scene, per a statement from Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

A report from the Associated Press quickly revealed that the shooter was a second lieutenant with the Saudi Air Force who was at the Naval Air Base in the United States for additional training.

Since then, multiple news outlets have confirmed the specific identity of the attacker as Second Lt. Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani. The FBI has already confirmed that they have taken over the investigation into the shooting and will be determining whether the attack was an act of terror.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was quick to lay the blame at the feet of Saudi Arabia during a press conference in the wake of the tragedy, saying, “The government of Saudi Arabia needs to make things better for these victims, and I think they’re going to owe a debt here given that this is one of their individuals.”

However, the “president” of this nation was quick to jump on his Twitter account in defense of his newfound friends.

“King Salman of Saudi Arabia just called to express his sincere condolences and give his sympathies to the families and friends of the warriors who were killed and wounded in the attack that took place in Pensacola, Florida,” Trump wrote in the first portion of a two-part tweet.

“The King said that the Saudi people are greatly angered by the barbaric actions of the shooter, and that this person in no way shape or form represents the feelings of the Saudi people who love the American people,” he added.

Trump has quickly and effectively come under fire for his defense of the very same country that murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi:

Though frankly, I’m not sure why anyone is still surprised. We knew he was this way. The comfort of his dictator pals and the NRA have always and will always come before the safety of human life in the United States so long as Trump’s reign of terror is allowed to continue.
