Donald Trump’s “America First” anti-globalism platform sure doesn’t look like an America First anti-globalism platform. Donald Trump voiced support for Bolivian President Evo Morales’s ouster in a statement on Monday. Morales has been critical of Trump on a number of occasions in the past but we’re totally sure that has nothing to do with Trump’s support of the Bolivian leader’s ouster (wink wink).
“The United States applauds the Bolivian people for demanding freedom and the Bolivian military for abiding by its oath to protect not just a single person, but Bolivia’s constitution,” Trump said.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) and Ilhan Omar, called Morales’ ouster what it is: A coup.
I am very concerned about what appears to be a coup in Bolivia, where the military, after weeks of political unrest, intervened to remove President Evo Morales. The U.S. must call for an end to violence and support Bolivia’s democratic institutions.

There’s a word for the President of a country being pushed out by the military. It’s called a coup.
We must unequivocally oppose political violence in Bolivia. Bolivians deserve free and fair elections.

What’s happening right now in Bolivia isn’t democracy, it’s a coup.
The people of Bolivia deserve free, fair, and peaceful elections – not violent seizures of power.

The violence and military rule that is taking place in Bolivia right now has nothing to do with restoring democracy. It’s a classic example of a coup. Meanwhile, here in the U.S., the “president” thinks a coup is taking place because Congress is holding him accountable for his corruption, extortion, and abuse of power. Trump supporters feign to not want us to get involved with other countries’ problems — like when Trump threw the Kurds, our allies, under the bus by abandoning them. But, suddenly, this is OK.
On Monday, Mexico offered asylum to Morales and later said the Bolivian leader had requested it. Morales is now en route to Mexico. The Trump administration has also pushed for the ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. That has been unsuccessful, though. So far.
