We've been waiting for this.

According to a new report from CNN, longtime Trump pal and real estate developer in New York Stanley Chera has passed away as a result of complications stemming from an infection of COVID-19.

CNN reports that Chera succumbed to the illness over the weekend after a long battle with the life-threatening virus that’s currently spreading like wildfire throughout the United States, starting last month when the real estate mogul was confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 and subsequently hospitalized.

Over the past few weeks, Trump has made mention of a personal friend who was hospitalized, in a coma with a coronavirus infection. Earlier this month, the New York Times was able to confirm through sources that the friend in question was, in fact, Stanley Chera.

Chera was also a significant donor to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

The CNN report notes, “From 2016 to 2019, Chera donated a total of $402,800 to Donald J. Trump for President Inc. and Trump Victory, organizations dedicated to supporting Trump’s presidency, according to Federal Election Commission records. Chera introduced Trump at the New York City Veteran’s Day Parade last November, calling the president ‘my dear friend.'”

Given the absolutely dismal response to the pandemic that we’ve seen out of Donald Trump over the last few crucial weeks, it’s safe to say that we were rather anxious to see what the president’s reaction would be to a death that actually hit so close to home for him.

Now that he has, it’s unsurprisingly just as generic a response as he’s given to the thousands of other deaths in this nation.

“My deepest sympathies go out to Frieda Chera and the family of the late, great, Stanley Chera, one of Manhattan’s most brilliant real estate minds. Stanley was charitable, kind, and a wonderful friend. He will be truly missed!” Trump’s tweet this evening read, hours after the news of Chera’s death broke.

At this point, I don’t think any death in particular is going to get Donald Trump any close to behaving like a compassionate human being as tens of thousands of people around the world lose their lives to an outbreak that is all but Donald Trump’s fault.

He just doesn’t really care.
