Trump Claimed It Would Have Been “Very Difficult” For Him To Grab At A Secret Service Agent Because “Because These Guys Lift 350 Pounds, I Don’t”

During this week’s surprise January 6th House Select Committee hearing, we saw bombshell testimony from former White House aide to Mark Meadows, Cassidy Hutchinson — part of which included allegations that now ex-President Donald Trump became so “furious” upon learning that he would not be allowed to go to the Capitol with his mob of supporters that he got physical with his driver.

Cassidy testified that Trump grabbed the steering wheel and lunged at his driver, Bobby Engel, as he violently demanded to be taken to the Capitol.

Ms. Hutchinson stated that Tony Oranto, the Secret Service agent then in charge of Trump’s detail, immediately recalled the assault to her after it happened.

“I noticed the head of Mr. Trump’s security detail sitting in a chair, looking somewhat discombobulated, a little lost,” Hutchinson testified. “I looked at Tony, he said, “did you hear what happened?” I said, “No, Tony, I just got back, what happened?”

“Tony proceeded to tell me that when the president got in, he was under the impression that the off-the-record movement to the Capitol was still possible and likely to happen,” Hutchinson’s testimony continued. “As the president had gotten into the vehicle with Bobby, he thought they were going up to the Capitol. When Bobby relayed to him that we are not, we do have the assets to do it, it is not secure, we are going back to the West Wing, the president had a very strong and very angry response to that.”

She went on to state that Trump “said something to the effect of “I’m the effing president, take me up to the Capitol now,” to which Bobby responded, “We have to go back to the West Wing.”

“The president reached up to the front of the vehicle to grab at the steering wheel. Mr. Engel grabbed his arm, said, ‘Sir, you need to take your hand off the steering wheel, we are going back to the West Wing, we are not going to the Capitol.’ Mr. Trump then used his free hand to launch toward Bobby Engel,” Cassidy testified, noting that when Ornato “recounted the story towards me, he aimed toward his clavicle.”

Donald Trump’s driver, Engel, was allegedly in the room as Ornato relayed this incident to Hutchinson and did not “correct or disagree” with Oranto’s recounting, according to the former White House aide.

Trump’s inner circle, as well as the former president himself, have been fighting tooth and nail to discredit this testimony since the moment it came out of the witness’ mouth. But now it seems Donald is so desperate to lay waste to Hutchinson’s claims that he was willing to take a thinly veiled, albeit inadvertent jab at himself.

Business Insider reports on a Newsmax interview with Trump today, in which the ex-president said, “Who would do that? I would grab a Secret Service person by the throat? It’s very hard for another reason. These guys lift 350 pounds. I don’t.”

“These are great people they have devoted their lives to and I think they were very embarrassed by it because I think it makes them sound terrible,” Trump added.

If nothing else, there’s one part, in particular, we know he’s telling the truth about.
