Trump Claims He Will Protect Social Security Just Hours After Telling Fox News He Will Cut It

Even when there's video proof, he still lies about what he said.

In a scramble to do damage control in the aftermath of his disastrous town hall on Fox News, President Donald Trump flip-flopped on Twitter Thursday morning by insisting that he will protect Social Security instead of cutting it.

During the town hall, Fox host Martha MacCallum brought up the national debt, which has only skyrocketed under Trump’s watch along with the deficit.

Trump insisted that his trade deals will somehow magically fix the problem.

“We — when these trade deals kick in, you know this economy is the best economy we’ve ever had,” Trump claimed. “It’s nothing to what it’s going to be when the trade deals kick in.”

MacCallum then brought up Medicare and Social Security by referring to them as “entitlements.”

“But if you don’t cut something in entitlements, you’ll never really deal with that,” she said.

We’ll be cutting, but we’re also going to have growth like you’ve never had before,” Trump replied.

Clearly, Trump just admitted that he intends to cut Social Security and Medicare if he is re-elected even though he repeatedly promised during the 2016 campaign that he would not touch either program.

And so, Trump took to Twitter and flat out lied to the American people the next day.

Biden’s own wobbly stance on Social Security aside, there is video of Trump saying he will cut the program.

Trump’s own budget even slashes Social Security by tens of billions of dollars.

Simply put, anyone who ignores what Trump said on national television and believes what he tweeted instead is gullible and in for a world of hurt, especially if they are drawing Social Security every month.

Furthermore, it should also be pointed out that Social Security is not an entitlement that adds to the deficit or the debt. It’s a trust that every American contributes to through payroll taxes.

This isn’t the first time Trump has said on television that he would cut Social Security. It’s also not the first time Trump denied something he said on video on Twitter the next day. Most recently, he denied saying that people who have contracted coronavirus could go to work and get better.

It’s hard to lie when there’s video.
