Trump Does Not Appear To Know How Viruses Work, Says Warmer Weather Will Make The Coronavirus Go Away

That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.

Government officials around the world have yet to get a handle on the new, deadly coronavirus that originated in China and has now begun to spread around the globe, taking numerous lives in its path.

According to live updates from CNN, “The death toll in China’s Hubei province now stands at 618, and the total number of confirmed cases has increased to 22,112, the health authority in Hubei province announced Thursday. The health authority reported that 15,804 patients remain hospitalized, of which 841 are in critical condition.”

At this point, the deadly virus has spread to the four corners of the earth with several here in America infected, the World Health Organization (W.H.O) has issued a Global Health Emergency, and it seems as though no one anywhere is any closer to a solution for the fatal illness.

But never fear, Donald Trump is here, right? And according to him, we need not worry, folks. Because as soon as this damned ol’ weather warms up we’ll be in the clear.

In a two-part tweet posted to his account today, Trump indicated that the deadly virus sweeping the globe would pretty much be a non-issue once the summer months rolled around as the virus would supposedly “become weaker” in warmer weather.

“Just had a long and very good conversation by phone with President Xi of China. He is strong, sharp and powerfully focused on leading the counterattack on the Coronavirus. He feels they are doing very well, even building hospitals in a matter of only days. Nothing is easy, but…” Trump’s first tweet read.

He followed it up with a second post, stating, “….he will be successful, especially as the weather starts to warm & the virus hopefully becomes weaker, and then gone. Great discipline is taking place in China, as President Xi strongly leads what will be a very successful operation. We are working closely with China to help!”

Here’s the thing — viruses don’t work like that. Especially not super, big, bad viruses that carry a high mortality rate like the coronavirus.

That thing your grandma always told you about catching the flu if you walk outside with wet hair? Yea. That’s not true. A virus is a virus. And it doesn’t discriminate against infecting you if it’s sunny and 75 degrees outside.

Now don’t come at me with “PEOPLE GET SICK IN THE WINTER AND NOT IN THE SUMMER!!!” Just hold up and let me explain.

People do tend to get sicker in the winter months than the warmer ones. But it has nothing to do with the strength of the virus. It boils down to how easily illnesses are transmitted when it’s cold.

For one, when the temperatures chilly people have a tendency to stay inside, in close quarters because the weather is looking a lot like “fuck that” outside. The closer you are to people, the more likely you are to get whatever they’ve got.

Secondly, the virus has the added ability to hang out in the air a bit longer in the winter months because the humidity isn’t suffocating it as quickly.

However, if we looked at the coronavirus (or any other comparable illness for that matter) like a machine, it’s not like it goes from an Army tank to a mobility scooter thanks to warmer temperatures. It’s still an Army tank. The paths to destruction are just ever so slightly clearer when it’s cold.
