I, like so many millions of other Americans right now, am so damn sick of all of this. I am sick of hearing that “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” I am sick of hearing about the mental illness and the absent fathers and the video games and rap music that “drives” people to shoot up an elementary school and brutally slaughter 21 innocent human beings. I am sick to death of the Right’s refusal to see, understand, or accept that the problem is the guns. It is always the guns. It’s never not the guns.
Salvador Ramos did not kill 19 children and 2 teachers inside their 4th-grade classroom with a butter knife, or mental illnesses, or video games, or rap music, or an absent father. He mass murdered babies and their teachers in an elementary school with an AR-15 assault rifle. Plain and simple.
But nothing… Nothing makes me sicker, any time something like this happens in this country (and it happens so much,) than the Conservatives’ notion of a “good guy with a gun.”
Tonight, ex-President Donald Trump attended the National Rifle Association convention in Houston, TX, less than 300 miles away from the scene of, and 72 hours after, the catastrophically devastating Uvalde school shooting.

Unsurprisingly, the disgraced, washed-up, one-term, twice-impeached president took to the stage and wasted no time in declaring to the crowd, on the heels of the shooting, “The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

Let me tell you what happened when it came to the “good guys with a gun” during the Robb Elementary School massacre. Local police stood in the parking lot and continually refused to engage with the man who was inside a fourth-grade classroom slaughtering children. Instead, they occupied themselves by pepper-spraying, tazing, and arresting distraught, devastated, and terrified parents who were begging them to just. Do. Something. The “good guys with guns” stood in the hallway of the school and listened as Salvador Ramos opened fire inside of that classroom multiple times, for 45-minutes to an hour, before finally breaching the room and taking him out. They have lied. They have schemed. They were fucking useless.
The “good guys with a gun” did absolutely nothing to stop the “bad guy with a gun” until he had successfully slaughtered 19 sweet babies and 2 beloved teachers. Declare THAT in your speech.
