If Donald Trump wasn’t mad at Mike Pence before, he definitely will be soon.

We just recently reported that Mike Pence’s team is already cooperating with the House Select Committee that’s currently investigating the infamous January 6th Capitol insurrection. But now it seems that it’s not just the former Vice President’s team that’s playing along. According to the Chair of the Committee, Pence himself may soon be delivering his own testimony to the panel, voluntarily.

Chair of the House Select Committee Rep. Bennie Thompson revealed this week that the panel has every intention of calling former Trump administration Vice President Mike Pence to testify in their investigation into the Capitol siege, and he had no trouble admitting that he doesn’t expect any pushback from Donald Trump’s former right-hand man, according to a new report from Business Insider.

Speaking with NPR, the Mississippi House Rep. said he expects the former Vice President to appear and give his testimony on a voluntary basis.

“I think you could expect that before the month’s out,” Thompson told the publication.

Mike Pence made it clear well before the infamous insurrection that he would not be following Donald Trump’s unhinged plan to reject the Electoral College votes in an effort to allow Trump to overthrow Biden’s win, and would instead vote in favor of certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Before the official proceedings in Congress, Pence penned a letter stating that his commitment to the US Constitution “constrains me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should be counted and which should not.”

Speaking with NPR, Thompson recognized that the former VP had been put in a “tough spot” by the then-president, but acknowledged that the former Vice President “stood fast.”

“And because of his respect for law, there were people who came to the Capitol a year ago wanting to hang him,” Thompson said. “And so, if for no other reason, our committee really needs to hear what are his opinions about what happened on Jan. 6.”

Thompson told the publication that the committee will be holding closed-door meetings next week to finalize their plans to request Pence’s voluntary appearance before the panel.

The Committee chair notes that the panel has not ruled out the possibility of requesting an appearance from other notable players within the ex-president’s circle, including his eldest daughter Ivanka.

“Look, we are absolutely open to anyone coming voluntarily to the committee,” Thompson told NPR. “If in fact, we think somebody has information that as a committee we need, and getting a subpoena for that person’s participation is important, then we will do it.”
