Donald Trump has mishandled the coronavirus pandemic from its onset — from predicting the virus would disappear when the weather is warmer to holding super-spreader events as COVID-19 ravages the country. And even Operation Warp Speed’s promise to deliver 300 million doses of safe and effective vaccines with the initial doses available by January 2021 is a dud. And instead of calling Republicans to urge them to pass the $2,000 relief checks to struggling Americans, Trump has been golfing daily and unleashing mean-girl tweets.
And to further cement his presidency as an abysmal failure, Trump is still hosting his annual New Year’s Eve party at his fancy pants Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, amid the pandemic that has taken nearly three hundred and forty thousand American lives.
A member of Mar-a-Lago told CNN that the New Year’s Eve party, which Trump and his family attend each year and which guests pay thousands per ticket, is still slated to take place Thursday night. Although it’s not confirmed, the resort member said that at least 500 reservations had been made so far.
What is unclear is whether attendees will adhere to coronavirus mitigation guidelines. At a gala earlier this month for Turning Point USA, the conservative student group, partygoers flouted mask and social distancing requirements, photos from the event showed hundreds in the Mar-a-Lago ballroom.

Mar-a-Lago members don’t seem to be taking the pandemic seriously.
“People are going for dinner as usual,” the source told CNN, who added there seems to be “little regard for the pandemic.” The beach club area by the pool is so crowded during the day that guests are arguing over available chairs, the source added.
Last year, Trump had to skip Mar-a-Lago’s $1,000-a-ticket New Year’s Eve party because the president had to remain in Washington due to the government shutdown he created over a border wall he promised Mexico would pay for, the Huffington Post reported. Instead, Melania greeted guests. But, this isn’t 2019. A pandemic hit, and this president has been on COVID’s side of the battle instead of siding with Americans. Trump surrendered to the coronavirus without putting up a fight.
Personally, I don’t understand why anyone would pay thousands of dollars to hang out with a girdled septuagenarian that wears high heels to appear taller and is a habitual liar and a cheat that is responsible for a massive amount of deaths. But, that’s just me.
