President Donald Trump openly attacked the media on World Press Freedom Day as leaders around the globe praised journalists and the work they do.
Trump didn’t even bother to recognize World Press Freedom Day on Sunday, plowing ahead with a tweet attacking the media instead as “corrupt” and calling them the “enemy of the people” in response to poll numbers that are not going his way.
The Fake News doesn’t show real polls. Lamestream Media is totally CORRUPT, the Enemy of the People! https://t.co/Agwb3u5QFd

Trump’s poll numbers are slipping across the country, especially in battleground states like Michigan and Pennsylvania where he is losing to former Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

Even the Trump campaign’s own internal polling shows Trump losing, which is why Trump reportedly yelled at his campaign manager.
Trump’s tweet caught the attention of CNN host Brian Stelter, who pointed out that today is World Press Freedom Day and went on to compare Trump’s anti-press freedom tweet to messages from other world leaders.

Of course, what else would we expect from a president who let Saudi Arabia off the hook for murdering Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi and who ignores the assassination of journalists in Russia?
Trump only likes media personalities who spread his propaganda and kiss his a**, like the hosts of Fox News and OANN shows do on a daily basis.
Attacks like this one on World Press Freedom Day only perpetuate violence and threats upon journalists, making them less safe in this nation and around the world. Journalists are vital to any healthy democracy and are protected by the Constitution. By attacking them, Trump not only disregards World Press Freedom Day, but he also disregards the very foundations of our country.
