Trump Organization Reportedly Suing NYC After City Terminated Their Contracts On The Heels Of Capitol Attack

I don't think this is going to work out, sport.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is investigating former President Donald Trump’s business, the Trump Organization, “in a criminal capacity,” her office said recently, so you’d think that the twice-impeached one-term president’s company would lay low for a bit. Instead, the Trump Organization sued New York City Monday for allegedly wrongfully terminating contracts the Trump Organization had to operate city facilities, ABC News reports.

“The City has no right to terminate our contract,” Trump Organization officials said in a statement,  according to the outlet. “Mayor [Bill] de Blasio’s actions are purely politically motivated, have no legal merit, and are yet another example of the mayor’s efforts to advance his own partisan agenda and interfere with free enterprise.”

The former president’s company garnered approximately $17 million annually from operating two Central Park ice skating rinks, the Central Park Carousel and the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point. Still, Mayor de Blasio terminated the contracts following the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection that was incited by Trump.

“The President incited a rebellion against the United States government that killed five people and threatened to derail the constitutional transfer of power,” de Blasio said at the time. “The City of New York will not be associated with those unforgivable acts in any shape, way, or form, and we are immediately taking steps to terminate all Trump Organization contracts.”

“The lawsuit alleges wrongful termination of a long-term contract the company had to operate the city-owned golf course at Ferry Point in the Bronx, which wasn’t due to expire until 2032,” ABC News reports.

“There can be no dispute that we are not just meeting, but exceeding our obligation to operate a first class, tournament quality daily fee golf course,” the Trump Organization said in a statement.

NYC defended the move to terminate the contracts.

“The actions of Mr. Trump to incite a deadly riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6 caused a breach of the Ferry Point contract by eliminating options for hosting championship events, and we will vigorously defend the City’s decision to terminate the contract,” Nick Paolucci, a spokesman for the New York City Law Department, said.

Well, if it were politically motivated, as Trump suggested, then de Blasio would have terminated the contracts long before January. I’m not an attorney, but I would think if a person incited an attack on U.S. soil, then that would be a good reason to stop doing business with them.
