President Donald Trump demonstrated his complete ignorance of Christianity and biblical history when he wished Christians a “Happy Good Friday” on Twitter, resulting in several reminders that Jesus was crucified on this day.
In short, Jesus was murdered on Good Friday over 2,000 years ago according to biblical texts. It’s not a “happy” day at all for the millions of Christians around the globe.
But Trump thought he could pander to Christians anyway without having the decency to even learn what Good Friday is all about.
HAPPY GOOD FRIDAY TO ALL!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 10, 2020
Twitter users, however, were quick to school him and condemn at the same time.
Happy? Do you know nothing about Christianity? Friday was the day Jesus was crucified.
Save your “happy” for Easter Sunday… pic.twitter.com/KSyuEN1lqz

Dear Christian friends,
I was taught that Good Friday is a somber day, and that saying “Happy Good Friday” is in poor taste, even offensive.
True or false? #GoodFriday

Good Friday is the day Jesus died. Not sure that is a “Happy” holiday for the people that commemorate it.
But I’m sure you already knew that, being a tremendous Christian.🙄
Sincerely,

You called yourself “The Chosen One.”
Why don’t we reenact Good Friday and see whether or not you get up on Sunday? https://t.co/CE0sNr4Zsl

This is a solemn day for Christians. It’s not called Happy Friday. Like not knowing what the significance of Pearl Harbor was, I’d suggest the President doesn’t know what happened on Good Friday according to the scriptures.

Good Friday is a somber day when Christians commemorate Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. At the same time, we are in the midst of a global pandemic which will claim the lives of over 2,000 Americans today. Donald Trump thinks this is an appropriate time for happiness. pic.twitter.com/a94Gf0S5YU

Good Friday is about sacrifice, a foreign concept to him

I’m Jewish and I know that #GoodFriday is a day of reflection.
How about reflecting on the fact that your slow response to #COVIDー19 has cost 16K people their lives & counting.

If Trump really cared about Christianity beyond shouting it out for the sake of getting the evangelical vote, he would have taken the time figure out what the day is all about so he could have marked it properly and respectfully. Instead, he once again embarrassed himself and insulted the very Christians he claims to love so much.
