Trump Reportedly Got Serious About COVID After Advisers Warned Him That “Our People” In Republican States Could See A Surge

This is sick.

Donald Trump’s return to White House press room briefings in recent days showed a president who wants the public to believe that he has struck a more serious tone about the pandemic — but he still had his moments as he would again refer to the spreading disease as the “China Virus.” Instead of lashing out at woman reporters during unfathomably lengthy pressers that turned into MAGA rallies, Trump’s new briefings have been short. And it appears there is a reason for Trump’s about-face.

Our divisive president became concerned when it finally hit him that his base could get infected from the disease that he chose to downplay and ignore for months, according to a report by the Washington Post.

“In the past couple of weeks, senior advisers began presenting Trump with maps and data showing spikes in coronavirus cases among ‘our people’ in Republican states,” a senior administration official told the news outlet. The advisers also shared projections with Trump that predicted that virus surges could soon hit politically important states in the Midwest — including Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, the official said.

“This new approach seemed to resonate, as he hewed closely to pre-scripted remarks in a trio of coronavirus briefings last week,” the report adds.

“This could have been stopped. It could have been stopped quickly and easily. But for some reason, it wasn’t, and we’ll figure out what that reason was,” Trump said Thursday while still taking no responsibility for previously downplaying the coronavirus just before it rampaged across the United States.

This “hoax” has now taken nearly one hundred and fifty thousand lives, and Trump has shown no regrets or remorse or even tried to pretend to care about the mountain of dead bodies behind him. But now that the disease will surge in states that are important for him to win another four years in the White House, apparently, Trump is suddenly serious about the disease.

Trump has failed to deal with a number of crises Americans are suffering from, and left the U.S. without a leader. Our self-described wartime president surrendered to the outbreak of COVID-19 without putting up a fight — and then it hit him: the disease doesn’t discriminate. It infects Democrats and Republicans.
