While various elected officials — including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — and the president’s own cabinet members are discussing invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Donald Trump from office, the outgoing president is headed to Camp David. A backlash ensued after Trump encouraged his fire-breathing supporters to go to the Capitol after the president refused to acknowledge that he was defeated by Joe Biden in both the popular and electoral vote. Instead of handling the defeat with grace, Trump acted disgracefully. After insurrectionists seized the Capitol, resulting in deaths, injuries, and vandalism, the president refused to tell them to leave the area.
Maybe they have a bunker at Camp David where the outgoing president can retreat.

Trump didn’t march down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol with his crowd of supporters. Instead, he fled the area, just as he’s doing now. The flight restrictions are scheduled to take effect on Friday at 3:30 p.m., suggesting that Trump may depart the White House in the late afternoon. The restrictions are scheduled to end at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

However, maybe this will make it easier for vice president Mike Pence to agree with invoking the 25th Amendment. He can take Trump’s role as president for the next two weeks to ensure a peaceful transition of power as an appalled nation attempts to heal. When the coronavirus pandemic hit, Trump surrendered to the disease without putting up a fight. And now, over three hundred and sixty-one Americans have died on this president’s watch. As if that wasn’t enough, Trump then encouraged an attack on U.S. soil at the nation’s Capitol.
Trump is not innocent, and in fact, he directed this attack. Trump’s ‘stand back and stand by’ remarks earlier this year when giving a shoutout to the Proud Boys certainly came to fruition. This president allowed our country to be attacked by traitors to the republic, and once again, he refused to keep Americans safe, even though the latter is part of his job. Enjoy Camp David, though, I guess?
