On Thursday, Donald Trump said during an interview on Fox Business with Maria Bartiromo that he would not participate in a virtual debate, just minutes after the organizing commission announced that next week’s event would be virtual to protect the health of those involved amid the raging pandemic. And, of course, Trump — who contracted COVID-19 on October 1st — is a super-spreader.

“I’m not going to do a virtual debate,” Trump said, claiming the Commission on Presidential Debates is “trying to protect” Democratic nominee Joe Biden. Trump added that “they cut you off whenever they want.”

Watch:

The Trump campaign said that it plans to hold a rally instead of doing the second debate remotely, said campaign manager Bill Stepien, who also has COVID-19. The statement looks like a child authored it:

Trump, of course, did not win the first debate as the statement claims. And vice president Mike Pence didn’t win the debate on Wednesday night as Trump claimed this morning.

Don Jr. seems to be triggered.

And, as with everything tied to Trump, it appears that Trump’s no-show backfired.

The upcoming virtual debate will be free advertising for the Biden campaign, and Trump just lost free airtime.
