Trump Seemed To Suggest That Gold Star Families Could Have Given Him COVID-19: “They Want To Hug Me, And They Want To Kiss Me”

This dude's got some nerve.

Ever since Donald Trump announced that he has contracted and tested positive for the potentially deadly coronavirus less than a week ago (followed very closely by a slew of his fellow GOPers), Americans from coast to coast have been wondering when, where, and from whom he got it.

Frankly, the possibilities are virtually limitless, considering the man has spent this entire pandemic trying to skirt every recommendation and guideline that’s been laid out by medical professionals and experts at every given opportunity.

At first, the blame was largely being put on Hope Hicks, who began to feel ill and tested positive for COVID-19 just shortly before the president did. However, in the days since Trump’s announcement, several other key Trump-friendly figures have found themselves positive for the illness as well, many of which had no contact with Hicks, leading us to believe that the outbreak hailed for Amy Comey Barrett’s nomination event and that Donald was infected a lot earlier than he told us.

However, Donald Trump isn’t about to admit something like that, is he?

When something goes sideways, Trump always has to have a scapegoat. And since his favorites, Hillary and Obama, weren’t available for this fiasco, considering they actually follow rules and guidelines, Donnie had to find someone else to place the blame on. And who better than some Gold Star military families, huh?

During an interview on Fox Business this morning with host Maria Bartiromo, Trump seemed to suggest that these families may be to blame for his illness, stating he “figured there would be a chance” he could contract the virus from the families of America’s late war heroes.

“Sometimes I’d be in groups of, for instance, Gold Star families. I met with Gold Star families. I didn’t want to cancel that,” Trump stated. “But they all came in and they all talk about their son and daughter and father. And, you know, they all came up to me, and they tell me a story.”

He went on to recall some of those visits to the Fox host saying the God Star families would approach him and “tell me a story about, ‘My son, sir, was in Iraq’. Or, ‘He was in Afghanistan.’ And, ‘Sir, he did this, and he did that, and then he charged in order to save his friends.’ And, ‘Yes, sir, he was killed, but he saved his friends. He’s so brave, sir.'”

He claimed that, as he’s being told these stories by the families, “I can’t say, ‘Back up, stand 10 feet,’ you know? I just can’t do it.”

“I can’t back up, Maria, and say, ‘Give me room. I want room. Give me 12 feet. Stay 12 feet away when you talk,” he doubled down.

Trump’s rant didn’t end there, though. The president went on, claiming that the Gold Star family members “come within an inch of my face, sometimes. They want to hug me, and they want to kiss me. And they do. And, frankly, I’m not telling them to back up. I’m not doing it.”

It’s worth noting here that while I suppose not impossible, it is highly unlikely that Trump contracted the virus from a Gold Star family and far more likely that he’s in his current predicament because he and his peeps downright refuse to follow the rules.
