Former President Donald Trump unleashed a statement to attack his former Attorney General, Bill Barr after Barr described the twice-impeached one-term president’s repeated unsubstantiated claims about widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election as “bullshit” in an upcoming book. Laughably, Trump called Barr, a Trump loyalist for most of his time in the administration, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell “spineless RINOs” — meaning, Republican in name only. An excerpt from a book by Jon Karl published at The Atlantic appears to have set Trump off.

“Bill Barr was a disappointment in every sense of the word,” Trump said in his statement. “Besides which, Barr, who was Attorney General (lawyer) shouldn’t be speaking about the President.”

“Instead of doing his job, he did the opposite and told people within the Justice Department not to investigate the election,” Trump continued. “Just like he did with the Mueller report and the cover up of Crooked Hillary and RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA, they don’t want to investigate the real facts. Bill Barr’s weakness helped facilitate the cover up of the Crime of the Century, the Rigged 2020 Presidential Election!”

The excerpt from the book shows Barr’s relationship with Trump in the last days of the administration and Barr’s thoughts on the former president’s repeated and baseless claims of voter fraud. Perhaps Barr is trying to polish up his image after being tied to the most toxic administration in recent history. Who knows.

“My attitude was: It was put-up or shut-up time,” Barr told Karl. “If there was evidence of fraud, I had no motive to suppress it. But my suspicion all the way along was that there was nothing there. It was all bullshit.”

Trump’s then-Attorney General also looked into allegations that voting machines across the U.S. were rigged to switch Trump votes to Biden votes. According to the outlet, Barr received two briefings from cybersecurity experts at the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI.

“We realized from the beginning it was just bullshit,” Barr told Karl, adding that even if the machines somehow changed the count and switched names, it would show up when they were recounted by hand. “It’s a counting machine, and they save everything that was counted. So you just reconcile the two. There had been no discrepancy reported anywhere, and I’m still not aware of any discrepancy.”

Trump brought up Barr’s interview with the Associated Press in which he said there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud.

“Did you say that?” Trump asked, according to the excerpt.

“Yes,” Barr responded.

“How the fuck could you do this to me? Why did you say it?” Trump shot back.

“Because it’s true,” Barr said.

The former president was angry, and said, “You must hate Trump. You must hate Trump.”

Well, Trump has always had an aversion to the truth.
