The National Prayer Breakfast is typically a bipartisan event, highlighting unity, but on Thursday morning, Donald Trump turned it into one of his cringe-worthy ego-rallies. One has learned to expect no less from such a petty president who always leaves humility at the door. Trump, in a classic case of projection, took shots at “dishonest and corrupt” people, then lashed out over his impeachment before the nonpartisan event while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sat nearby. Trump just had to make the prayer breakfast all about him.
“As everybody knows, my family, our great country, and your president have been put through a terrible ordeal by some very dishonest and corrupt people,” Trump said. “They have done everything possible to destroy us and by so doing, very badly hurt our nation. They know what they are doing is wrong, but they put themselves far ahead of our great country.”
Then, of course, Trump took shots at Pelosi and Utah Republican Mitt Romney, both of whom are deeply religious people.
“Weeks ago, and again yesterday, courageous Republican politicians and leaders had the wisdom, fortitude, and strength to do what everyone knows was right,” he continued. “I don’t like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong. Nor do I like people who say, ‘I pray for you,’ when they know that that’s not so. So many people have been hurt and we can’t let that go on. And I’ll be discussing that a little bit later at the White House.”

Trump, who is religious only when it’s convenient and beneficial to him, tweeted something similar about Pelosi in early December.
Nancy Pelosi just had a nervous fit. She hates that we will soon have 182 great new judges and sooo much more. Stock Market and employment records. She says she “prays for the President.” I don’t believe her, not even close. Help the homeless in your district Nancy. USMCA?

Trump went full-on MAGA at the event while lifting up copies of USA Today and the Washington Post with headlines that read “ACQUITTED” and “Trump Acquitted” splashed across the front pages while displaying them to the attendees. To the Republicans, such as Susan Collins, who thought Trump would change his behavior after his impeachment and voted to acquit, how fucking stupid do you feel right now?
