On Truth Social, a social media platform known for spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories, former President Donald Trump woke up on Sunday morning and issued a dire warning to his supporters: a “dark period in American history” is coming. In a post filled with baseless accusations and inflammatory language, Trump railed against the “Thugs and Scoundrels of the Unselect Committee,” an apparent reference to the ongoing investigations into his administration’s actions.
But this isn’t the first time Trump has used such inflammatory language to sow discord and division among the American people. In fact, throughout his presidency, Trump consistently employed fear-mongering tactics, often using divisive language and baseless conspiracy theories to rally his supporters and deflect attention away from his own wrongdoing.
One such example is Trump’s baseless claim that the 2020 election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him. Despite lacking any evidence to support these allegations, Trump repeated them relentlessly, leading to violent attacks on the Capitol and the attempted overthrow of a democratic election.
Trump continued with his manic posts: “Republicans and Patriots all over the land must stand strong and united against the Thugs and Scoundrels of the Unselect Committee. It will be a dark period in American history, but with darkness comes light!!!”

Additionally – he wrote on Truth Social: “The Democrats will do anything not to run against me, MAGA, and putting AMERICA FIRST. Remember, they are the Party of MISINFORMATION, constantly saying the opposite of what they really want. I am beating everybody in the REAL Polls, by a lot, so they say, ‘Gee, we want to run against Trump,’ at the same time they spend $Millions to try and beat me, hoping for another candidate. I devoured them in 2016, and again, with much bigger numbers, in 2020, but that Election was RIGGED. MUST DO IT AGAIN!” which was quickly followed by, “The FBI’s Illegal Left Wing DOMINANCE over TWITTER, FACEBOOK, and other Big Tech companies, has been a shock to the World, but remember, this was only one of MANY ways that the 2020 Election was Rigged & Stolen!!!”
But Trump’s rhetoric isn’t just harmful in terms of the violence and unrest it incites. It also has real consequences for the American people, particularly those who are marginalized and vulnerable. Trump’s constant attacks on immigrants, people of color, and other marginalized groups have contributed to an increase in hate crimes and discrimination, creating a climate of fear and intolerance in the United States.
And yet, despite the clear harm caused by Trump’s rhetoric, many of his supporters continue to stand by him, seemingly unwilling to acknowledge the damage he has caused. This is particularly concerning given Trump’s recent threat of a “dark period in American history,” as it suggests that he may be planning to continue using fear and division to manipulate his supporters and maintain power.
But there is hope. As the investigations into Trump’s actions continue, the truth is slowly coming to light, and more and more people are waking up to the reality of what Trump’s presidency really represented. The actions of brave individuals like the rioters who stormed the Capitol on January 6th, as well as the countless others who have spoken out against Trump’s wrongdoing, demonstrate that there are those who are willing to stand up for what is right, even in the face of immense backlash and intimidation.
It is up to all of us, then, to do our part in combating the hate and misinformation spread by Trump and his supporters. We must stand together, united in our commitment to truth and justice, and work to create a brighter future for ourselves and future generations.
