I did not see this coming.

Donald Trump’s former Treasury Secretary discussed invoking the 25th Amendment to remove the former president from office following the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection. ABC’s Jonathan Karl, whose bestselling book, ‘Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show’ has just come out, revealed on MSNBC’s Morning Joe that Steve Mnuchin brought up invoking the 25th Amendment with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Jan. 6 to remove Trump from office. And frankly, if you don’t think the twice-impeached one-term president is unhinged, then you might be crazy, too.

“I learned rock-solid sourcing on this, “Karl told host Jonathan Lemire. “I learned that Steven Mnuchin had a conversation with Mike Pompeo on the evening of Jan. 6. And I learned that Mnuchin had several conversations about the 25th Amendment and further, that Pompeo actually asked for a legal analysis of the 25th Amendment and how it would work.”

“The idea quickly was jettisoned — you had on January 7th cabinet members resign, DeVos resign, the labor secretary resign. It became apparent that the 25th Amendment was not going to work,” he continued. “It would not be quick enough, and it would be subject to legal challenges, but in the hours after the riot, there were high-level conversations about this.”

Watch:

On Jan. 7, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also said the 25th Amendment should be invoked following the attack on the Capitol. Schumer said in a statement, “The quickest and most effective way — it can be done today — to remove this president from office would be for the vice president to immediately invoke the 25th Amendment.”

Pelosi told reporters at the time, “If the vice president and Cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment,” and they did impeach him for inciting the riot.

Congress voted to urge Pence to take steps to remove Donald Trump from office, but the former vice president declined. And now Trump is the leader of the GOP, even though he cost his party the House, Senate, and the presidency. It’s almost as if the entire party is insane.
