Trump’s Campaign Reportedly Spent 400K On Ads In DC Just To Ease Trump’s Anxieties

Trump's campaign is spending more money to stroke his ego than he paid Stormy Daniels in hush money.

As Donald Trump pouts inside the White House behind his baby gate, his campaign is desperately trying to make him happy by wasting money on ad buys in the Washington DC area.

With the country in the midst of a recession that began in February, a global pandemic that has claimed over 112,000 American lives, nearly 40 million Americans unemployed, and ongoing mass protests across the nation, Trump is panicking about his re-election chances.

Biden leads in general election polls and leads Trump in several battleground states. He’s even tied him in Texas. Needless to say, Trump is upset because he delusionally believes that he has a commanding lead in every state and that all the polls are wrong, never mind the fact that his own internal polls show that he’s getting his a** handed to him.

Trump is throwing hissy fits and Republicans are starting to freak out enough that even they are beginning to criticize him. So, his campaign is spending money on ads to run in DC and the surrounding area to soothe his fragile ego.

According to The Daily Beast:

[O]ver the past month, the Trump campaign has spent slightly more than $400,000 on cable news ads in the Washington, D.C., area, buying time largely on Fox News but with some smaller buys on CNN and MSNBC as well, according to filings with the Federal Communications Commission. The ads began running in late May and are scheduled through June 23. It is, on a purely electoral level, a remarkably quixotic use of campaign cash. The purchases have no real shot of moving D.C., Maryland, or Virginia into the Trump column.

The Trump campaign said the ad buys were an attempt to reinvigorate and reassure the president’s supporters in the nation’s capital. ‘We want members of Congress and our DC-based surrogates to see the ads so they know our strong arguments for President Trump and against Joe Biden,’ wrote Tim Murtaugh, the campaign’s communications director, in an email on Monday.

But two knowledgeable sources—one a Trump campaign adviser, the other an individual close to the president—said the D.C.-area ads had another purpose as well: to put the president himself at ease.”

Trump does spend much of his time watching Fox News during periods he refers to as “executive time,” so his campaign is clearly hoping Trump will see the ads and get all giddy. It’s like taking a screaming toddler and putting them in front of the television to watch their favorite show so they will calm down.

Again, the ads won’t do Trump any good in this election since DC, Maryland, and Virginia all voted against Trump in 2016 and will likely vote for Biden in November. It’s a waste of money all to suck up to Trump. But Democrats can’t complain. After all, that’s $400,000 less that Trump’s campaign won’t have to spend in a battleground state, thus giving Biden more of an edge. That could be the difference between winning and losing, including in Texas.

And when Trump ultimately loses, there won’t be enough money or ads to quell that tantrum.
