According to a new report from the New York Times, disgraced, one-term, twice-impeached ex-President Donald Trump’s desperation to make the probes and investigations into his businesses and finances stop has finally reached a pathetic fever pitch, as the former guy officially launches a lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James.

“The suit, filed in federal court in upstate New York by Mr. Trump and his family real estate business, argues that Ms. James’s inquiry, which has lasted more than two years, has violated Mr. Trump’s constitutional rights,” NYT’s Jonah Bromwich, Ben Protess, and William Rashbaum report. “Mr. Trump and his lawyers have long argued that the investigation was politically motivated; the lawsuit asks a judge to agree, and to stop the investigation.”

The Times report goes on to note that the lawsuit claims James’ “mission is guided solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate, and retaliate against a private citizen who she views as a political opponent.”

Of course, this eleventh-hour effort on the ex-president’s part is one of many in what has been a multi-year-long effort by Trump and his allies to aggravate and dishevel the numerous investigations that are raging against him and his crooked business practices. Both critics of Trump and his own insiders have accused the ex-president of tax and bank fraud — namely through keeping two separate sets of books and regularly misrepresenting the value of his various properties, depending upon whether he was dealing with lenders or tax officials, in an effort to receive more favorable loans and tax breaks.

Donald Trump has infamously fought tooth and nail for years now to keep his tax returns and business records hidden, but state investigators in New York recently finally won that uphill, neverending battle.

Thus far, the ex-president’s business, the Trump Organization, has already been officially indicted on state tax charges that ultimately served to take the company’s long-time CFO Allen Weisselberg down as well. No charges or indictments for Trump himself have come to light yet, though one Pulitzer-Prize-winning investigative journalist has recently stated that he’s fully confident that a criminal racketeering indictment against the former president is just around the corner.
