According to new reporting, Donald Trump’s former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows is likely to soon face a criminal referral after he refused to comply with a subpoena to appear before the House select committee that is currently investigating the January 6th Capitol riot.

Of course, Meadows’ refusal to cooperate with the subpoena comes as no surprise. The former Trump administration official made it crystal clear just yesterday that he would not be showing up before the committee:

The chair of the January 6th committee, Bennie Thompson, penned a public letter in response to Meadows’ refusal to comply, writing,

The Select Committee will view Mr. Meadows’s failure to appear at the deposition, and to produce responsive documents or a privilege log indicating the specific basis for withholding any documents you believe are protected by privilege, as willful noncompliance Such willful noncompliance with the subpoena would force the Select Committee to consider invoking the contempt of Congress procedures … which could result in a referral from the House of Representatives to the Department of Justice for criminal charges –as well as the possibility of having a civil action to enforce the subpoena brought against Mr. Meadows in his personal capacity.”

Mr. Meadows is quite frankly neck-deep in the January 6th corruption, serving as a go-between for the Willard war room, insurrection organizers, and Trump. It’s high time that people like him and Steve Bannon face the repercussions of their actions.
