Trump’s Fourth Homeland Security Chief In 3 Years Has Resigned, Citing Discomfort In His Position

I mean, I would too.

Kevin McAleenan, the fourth Secretary of Homeland Security to serve in the position since Donald Trump took office, has resigned today, according to CNN. He had faced intense scrutiny before Congress as the face of Trump’s often racist, polarizing immigration policies, over which he had been presiding since April when he was appointed “acting” Secretary (as so many of Trump’s officers do).

Although the official line from McAleenan’s office and aides is that he felt he had accomplished all he could do in the position, that’s a stark contrast with an interview he gave to the Washington Post published at the beginning of the month.

In that article, McAleenan said that while he was in control of his department — ostensibly the largest expansion of government ever undertaken by a Republican president — “What I don’t have control over is the tone, the message, the public face and approach of the department in an increasingly polarized time. That’s uncomfortable, as the accountable, senior figure.”

Well, Kev, you’ve mastered the art of the understatement. All of those things are currently Pure Trump™ and the President wouldn’t have it any other way. Well, Trump and Stephen Miller, the creepy white supremacist who writes Trump’s most insane speeches and sets the anti-brown agenda in the most inhumane ways he can dream up as he recovers from his “daylight allergy” inside his lead-lined sarcophagus.

With McAleenan’s resignation, Trump will be forced to appoint a new Head of Inquisition — I mean, Acting Secretary of Homeland Security.

Trump himself announced the resignation on Friday, telling the outgoing director “Congratulations… on a job well done!” and declaring that he would be picking a new HomeSec chief next week.

According to the CNN report, the outgoing Secretary is most proud of the fact that he actually got Trump to call white supremacists bad, something the White House had previously shied away from (possibly because Miller’s sarcophagus was not yet lead-lined and he could hear them whispering).
