President Donald Trump has been desperately trying to blame former President Barack Obama for coronavirus testing failures, but National Institutes of Health infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci had none of it.
Trump’s response to the pandemic has been a failure starting with the utter lack of tests available. So far, there are more than one million cases in the United States and 62,000 deaths. But lack of testing means a whole lot more people could be infected and we don’t know it.
But instead of taking responsibility for his failures, Trump tried to blame Obama during a press conference by claiming that he inherited “a set of circumstances and we were given rules and regulations and specifications from a different time.”
The problem is that even Fauci, who served in the same position during the Obama administration through the H1N1 and Ebola epidemics that were handled successfully, had no clue what Trump was talking about, especially since COVID-19 did not even exist yet.

“To be honest with you, I’m not sure what regulations and what they’re talking about,” Fauci told Fox News anchor Chris Wallace. “I really mean that. I’m trying to figure out what it is that these things were in place that were able to– or inhibiting. But one thing that I do know now is that the ability to get a test had some regulatory and other restrictions on it but the FDA now has just gotten rid of.”
Wallace, however, pointed out that Trump’s FDA could have dropped those regulations earlier on.
“They could have but that fact is, it wasn’t,” Fauci said. “So instead of looking back, look at where we’re going.”

So, what Fauci revealed is yet another failure to act on Trump’s part. He could have ordered the FDA to ease regulations as soon as the virus showed up in the United States or even before it did. But he didn’t. Now our country is severely in need of testing kits and Trump is hell-bent on re-opening the nation for business without adequate supplies to prevent the spread of the virus.
