Two Sources Claim Mitch McConnell Told Senate Republicans On A Call Today That He Wants To Resume GOP Party Lunches Amid Pandemic

I'm sure this will work out swimmingly.

The coronavirus curve is not flattened yet, and the U.S. is approaching fifty-seven thousand deaths from the disease that has halted our economy while suddenly putting twenty-six million Americans out of work. While most Americans are sheltering at home to protect others, and to stop COVID-19 from spreading, some conservatives have broken out in protests against the lockdown in various states, with, as it appears, the support of the president.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell seems to want to defy the rules, too, that keep the disease from spreading. According to Politico’s Jake Sherman, McConnell told his Republican colleagues to resume party lunches at the Senate.

Ooof!

That move is reminiscent of Kentucky Republican Rand Paul who, while waiting on test results for COVID-19, went to the gym and swam in the Senate pool. Paul, who is a doctor, later tested positive for the coronavirus. Paul also said he opposed an interim $484 billion coronavirus relief bill even though he tested positive. But he has a luxurious lifestyle, and the rest of us poor slobs can suck it, apparently. Paul also called to reopen the economy, echoing many Republicans who want your MeeMaw and Grandpa to die for Wall Street.

Now, if McConnell and his fellow Republicans want to contract the coronavirus, that’s on them. But the highly contagious disease would spread to others. Otherwise, we’d suggest Senate Republicans hold an open buffet and wipe their mouths with each other’s napkins, perhaps lick each other’s faces and eyeballs — just to show a little camaraderie — to show the party is unified and whatnot. And it would really own the libs if they did that!

But putting other people’s lives at risk isn’t cool.

Some states are reopening parts of their economies amid the pandemic. More than a million people in this country have now tested positive for the coronavirus. Experts warn that that represents only the beginning of a months-long battle to end the pandemic. So, on the same day we passed the one million mark, McConnell wants to have luncheons with his colleagues.

You do you, Mitch. The rest of us will stay home, though.
