Unearthed Interview With Trump’s Impeachment Lawyer Shows How He Really Felt About POTUS, Appeared To Believe He “Engaged In Corruption And Would Likely Continue To Be Corrupt If He Took Office”

He wasn't wrong.

Alan Dershowitz, a lawyer on Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment defense team, sure has changed his views from just a few years ago. Dershowitz’s defense of Trump on the Senate floor was odd as he claimed that even if former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s account in his book was accurate, Trump had not committed an impeachable offense. In essence, Trump’s defense team is saying that it’s not unconstitutional for a “president” to abuse his power while in office by holding direly needed aid over a foreign leader’s head until they dig up dirt on his political rival.

In 2016, in a radio show, Dershowitz admitted that Donald Trump had engaged in corruption and would likely continue that behavior if he took office, according to audio unearthed by CNN’s KFILE.

Listen:

Dershowitz was asked about the then-Democratic candidate’s family charity, The Clinton Foundation, for which she faced accusations of misusing funds even though it has an “A” rating.

“When you compare that to what Trump has done with Trump University, with so many other things, I think there’s no comparison between who has engaged in more corruption and who is more likely to continue that if elected president of the United States,” Dershowitz said. “So I think what we’re doing is we’re comparing, we’re saying, look, neither candidate is anywhere close to perfect, let’s vote for the less bad candidate.”

Dershowitz went full-Dershowitz in responding to the 2016 audio to CNN: “I was campaigning for Clinton,” he said. “That’s what I believed at the time based on media reports. I didn’t know Trump. I knew Clinton.”

Trump as “president” had to fork over $25 million to settle three lawsuits over his fraudulent university. And just this past November, Trump admitted that he had used funds raised by the Donald J. Trump Foundation to promote his campaign and pay business debts. For that, the “president” was ordered to pay $2 million to nonprofits for violating charity laws. According to a report, Trump’s children, Ivanka, Don Jr. and Eric Trump “were ordered to undergo mandatory training to ensure they do not engage in similar misconduct” to avoid defrauding charities.

Dershowitz in 2016 was correct, and the email lady’s charity is still going strong with its A-rating. Hillary is living her best life, probably sipping some Chardonnay or whatnot, while not being impeached or locked up.

By the way, what’s the going rate for a soul these days, Mr. Dershowitz?
