According to reports from John Hopkins University, the coronavirus has killed more than 83,000 people in the United States — more deaths than any other country in the entire world. And one Academy award-winning actor is calling Donald Trump out on it.
Robert De Niro has never been a fan of the current president. In fact, as one of the most vocal celebrity critics of the man, he once wished one Christmas for a bag of sh*t to hit Donald Trump in the face. And honestly, same. I only wish I’d thought to ask Santa for it first.
However, as the deadly virus continues to wreak havoc in the US, taking countless lives in its wake, the award-winning actor is once again reigniting his feud with the president and it’s a whole lot less humorous this go around, now that literal mass death is involved.
In a segment with BBC Newsnight, De Niro labeled Trump as a “lunatic” who “doesn’t care how many people die” from the deadly virus outbreak.

When the actor was questioned as to why more scientific advisors weren’t openly standing up to Trump’s behavior, De Niro responded, “It’s Shakespearean, the whole thing, you’ve got a lunatic saying things that people are trying to dance around. They’re doing it in the hearings a little more, trying to say tactfully that this is what will happen, Fauci is doing that.”
“It’s appalling. [Trump] wants to be re-elected,” he added. “He doesn’t even care how many people die.”
Newsnight host Emily Maitlis suggested that Donald Trump’s fan base likely wouldn’t agree. But De Niro was quick to respond, saying, “No, he doesn’t care for those people. And the people who he pretends to care about are the people he has the most disdain for because he could care less about them.”
“They might like to tell themselves or to delude themselves, but he doesn’t care about them.”
It’s not lost on De Niro that Donald Trump’s only goal is to secure another four years in power. Human life isn’t on his list of concerns.
