Earlier this month, a 102-year-old woman in Chicago, Beatrice Lumpkin, put on a hazmat-like suit and took her ballot to the mailbox, ensuring she could safely cast her vote for the 2020 presidential election. You might have read about her, and now, a 104-year-old woman proudly casting her vote, too. And obviously, both women are in the high-risk category for COVID-19, yet they braved the waters to vote.
A woman identified only as Ruth from New York was accompanied by her friend Faith Salie and Salie’s two young children. “Today I had the honor of escorting my 104.5-year-old friend Ruth to vote,” writer and performer Faith Salie tweeted on Sunday.
Salie included a video of her elderly friend working the pavement with her walker and explained that Ruth was born in 1916 before women had voting rights.
“Her first vote was for FDR. Her dad died of the flu during the pandemic of 1918 when she was two. This is her voting story today,” Salie said.
Ruth explained how badly she wants to vote.

“I want to vote more than anything just today before I shoot that asshole Trump,” Ruth tells her friend.

What an inspirational message Ruth sent out, showing that it’s never too late to fight back. And Ruth is correct — Trump is an asshole. But after the election results come in, Melania can have that asshole all to herself again as the United States rejects the raging narcissist. Ruth’s video has been viewed over one million times now. Ruth’s a hit!
