There was a time not very long ago when politicians would politely say “no comment” to a reporter if they didn’t want to answer the question or they were busy going about their daily work routine. Then Donald Trump came into power and all sense of decency flew out the window while he labeled reporters and journalists as the “enemy of the people.” Trump supporters have basically joined their “president” in vilifying the press.
One of those people is Republican Martha McSally who lost a race to Democrat Kyrsten Sinema but was then gifted with a Senate seat by Gov. Doug Ducey. So, the people of Arizona did not vote her in and her seat is now vulnerable.
One would think McSally would not treat the press with utter disdain since her political career is on shaky ground, but she went there with CNN senior correspondent Manu Raju as he attempted to ask her whether she would consider new evidence as part of Donald Trump’s upcoming Senate impeachment trial. The Arizona Republican is in a tough race against Democrat Mark Kelly so she decided to make it even tougher by yelling at Raju for asking a reasonable question since Trump’s impeachment trial is kind of a big thing.
Raju asked, “Should the Senate consider new evidence as part of the impeachment trial?”

“Manu, you’re a liberal hack, I’m not talking to you,” McSally yelled out.
“You’re not going to answer the question?” Raju asked.
“You’re a liberal hack,” McSally repeated, before going into a hearing room.

Raju tweeted about the incident:
Sen. Martha McSally, a Republican facing a difficult election race, lashed out when I asked if she would consider new evidence as part of the Senate trial. “You’re a liberal hack – I’m not talking to you. You’re a liberal hack.” She then walked into a hearing room.

Then, while obviously thinking it was really cool to act like a shithead, McSally posted the video on Twitter in response to Raju’s tweet.
A) you are.
B) here’s the video. https://t.co/zVgk9pBhdf pic.twitter.com/cfFdotLjFK— Martha McSally (@SenMcSallyAZ) January 16, 2020
What a winning tactic Republicans are using. Treat the press like shit then double-down on that while trying to win a tight Senate race.
