One of Donald Trump’s most insufferable traits is his lack of empathy, especially amid the novel coronavirus pandemic that has now claimed more than one hundred thousand American lives and left tens of millions out of work. To Trump, he is the victim, not all the people sheltering at home in this country. An inside source revealed to Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman how Trump spent his Memorial Day weekend, aside from his golf outings, and rage-tweeting.
Trump is reportedly losing every one of his shits over presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden beating the president in internal polls, and also what he perceives as being treated unfairly over his handling of the COVID-19 outbreak.
“He was just in a fucking rage,” the insider told Gabriel. “He was saying, ‘This is so unfair to me! Everything was going great. We were cruising to reelection!”
“The problem is he has no empathy,” the adviser said. Trump complained that he should have been warned about the virus sooner. “The intelligence community let me down!”

Well, it appears that Trump wouldn’t even listen to his wife.
According to what a source told the outlet, Melania Trump warned her husband during their trip to India in February to take the virus response seriously. “He totally blew her off,” the source said. Melania later told people that the president “only hears what he wants to hear and surrounds himself with yes-people and family,” according to the source.
Trump was focused on his dimming chances of being reelected.
“Trump’s outburst reflected his growing frustration that, at this stage of the race, he is losing to Joe Biden,” Sherman writes. “According to a Republican briefed on the campaign’s internal polls, Trump is trailing Biden by double digits among women over 50 in six swing states. ‘Trump knows the numbers are bad. It’s why he’s thrashing about,’ the Republican said.”
“Even those closest to Trump have been privately worried the election is slipping away,” Sherman continued.
Trump has another obstacle — and his name is Donald Trump.
“Trump is doing it to himself by tweeting idiotic conspiracy theories about Joe Scarborough. Women are tired of this shit,” a former West Wing official said. An outside adviser agreed with that assessment. “Trump can’t pivot to a different strategy,” the adviser told Sherman. “He only knows one strategy—which is [to] attack. It worked in 2016. But now it’s not what people are looking for.”
“He lives in his own fucking world,” the outside adviser added.
We kind of knew that already, though. Imagine that; they finally figured out that during the pandemic, Americans don’t want more chaos. Who saw that coming.
