White House Schedule Shows Trump Does Not Have Anything On His Public Schedule To Honor MLK Day

Dr. King would be ashamed of this world we're living in.

We’ve all known for some time now that Donald Trump is a flaming racist dickbag, and he’s not even really all that great at hiding it — cue the dream of a big, flashy wall spanning our southern border to keep the Mexican brown people out, the prisons and cages full of innocent brown babies, and the travel ban aimed to keep the “Muslim” brown people out of our country (just to name a few off the top of my head) and it’s not hard to see that Trump finds himself rather uncaring for anyone that doesn’t have alabaster skin, blue eyes, and blonde hair.

I mean, Hell, even his attempts at garnering some minority votes with “*insert chosen minority name here* For Trump!” rallies have turned out to be little more than a bunch of old, fat, white dudes donning a “Blacks For Trump” t-shirt and standing around in their MAGA hats hoping they look cool for a few hours.

Frankly, he’d really like these folks to vote for him, but he really doesn’t want to actually have to put in an ounce of footwork or real compassion for them.

So when days like today come around, it’s equally as unsurprising as it is disgusting to see that Trump has no plans to actually honor this holiday in any way — because sometimes it seems he likes to just be a little tricky about his racism.

Today marks the federal holiday set aside to honor and celebrate Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, which falls on the 15th of January but is celebrated on the 3rd Monday of the month, every year.

King was the spiritual leader for the nonviolent Civil Rights Movement during the 1950s and 60s. He served as the uniting voice for millions of oppressed and forgotten human beings, both past and present. He became the lighthouse of hope in a world where it didn’t seem hope could be found. He was the man who called upon thousands with unsurpassed fire and conviction to treat every man, woman, and child equally — yet with a level of peace, compassion, and understanding that could never be mimicked.

He was the man who peacefully, yet proudly and unwaveringly ushered little black women to the front of the bus, because they deserved that seat — an unmatched, irreplaceable, invaluable, key figure in history.

It may lead you to wonder what our president has in store for such an honorable day as today. But I have the answer for you right here:

Nothing.

Per the official White House schedule, President Donald Trump doesn’t have a single thing in the books today until 3 pm, at which point the White House pool will be arriving to cover him during his travels to Davos when he departs at 6:15 pm.

There is no ceremony. There is no moment of recognition or celebration. The only acknowledgment Trump has made in regard to the holiday at all thus far has been a generic retweet from the White House’s official Twitter account.

Because see, Donald Trump doesn’t care much for acknowledging anything that doesn’t serve him on the most personal level possible. And he certainly isn’t champing at the bit to celebrate a day meant to honor a man who protected, celebrated, and fought for the human beings that he hates most.

I’ve got to be honest with you, folks — we live in a world now that Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be ashamed of. We live in a world now where Dr. King would be taking to the streets with his powerful voice and his heart full of love, and sadness, and compassion for those who need it most.

And that is damn sure nothing to be proud of.
